Efroymson Family Fund

awards a

Restoration Grant to Venoge

In 2007, the Efroymson family Fund based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the help of Historic Landmarks of Indiana, awarded a $5000 grant to Musee de Venoge.  The grant was to help further the restoration efforts.

We have new window frames and nine over six sashes in all windows in the lower floor and six over six windows in the upper floor.  Now that the exterior door jambs have been exposed and refurbished, the actual size of the original doors is known.  One original door, that has been a window since about 1900, was opened up.

The corner boards have been remade with a bead duplicating the original bead found on a fragment of original remaining corner board.  They have been put into place: a necessity that allows us now to install our existing siding.

During the restoration process it was determined that the second floor sill could not accept the weight of the new window frame and sashes.  The wood was too deteriorated.  Instead of splicing a new sill onto the existing one, we decided to use a two part wood epoxy product made by Abatron.  After removing all rotten wood a liquid primer was applied and the filer used.  It successfully filled the void and strengthened the sill, thereby avoiding costly replacement.

It was also determined that the window on the east side of the second floor storage area was not put in during the original building of the house.

The Board of Venoge is grateful to the Efroymson Family Fund for making this possible.
